So True

I met Jen, aka: pinkcupcakegirl, earlier this year at a running event. She is super cool! She loves to run and eat cupcakes, just like me! Yesterday she posted this quote on instagram. I couldn't have said it better!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Do you know what you're baking yet?

How about these Turkey Cupcakes from What's New Cupcake? Came across this Turkey Cupcake from Saucy's Sprinkles via Party Cupcake Ideas. Super cute, but I just don't have the time to decorate something as detailed as this. But that's just me, I'm impatient.

Cupcake Costume

It seems like I was just in Hawaii setting off fireworks, yet there are signs everywhere of back-to-school, Halloween, and dare I say Christmas! Ahhhh! It really is true that sign flies the older you get.

Pottery Barn Kids has their Halloween costumes up on their website already and the Cupcake Costume is so adorable. Having a super adorable girl wearing the costume doesn't hurt the image either. The Cupcake Costume is $59 and available in sizes 2T-3T, 4-6, and 7-8. Don't forget the matching Cupcake Treat Bag!

Paul Frank Cupcake T-Shirts

Yesterday I saw this adorable Paul Frank t-shirt featured on All Things Cupcake. This Julius cupcake shirt is available at Target for $8.99. Target started selling Paul Frank brand clothing about a year or two ago. I'm happy that Paul Frank clothing is available for cheaper prices, but being sold at Target takes away some of it's value.

I was curious if Paul Frank had any other cupcake-inspired clothing. My google research found the Cupcake Vic Tee from the Paul Frank website. Unfortunately it is sold out. I bet there will be more cupcake clothing from Paul Frank in the future.

I was doing a little Christmas shopping on Cyber Monday and came across this cute cupcake beanie from Neff. You would definitely be able to spot me on the slopes if I was wearing this!

Crochet Cupcake Beanie

The end of summer means the beginning of fall TV. Since there's so much good stuff on TV, I'll be spending a little bit more time on the couch. I'm the type of person that likes to multitask. During LOST or The Office, you can also find me washing dishes or folding laundry. But I want a new hobby, so I asked Carrie, the craft guru, to teach me how to knit.

She graciously invited me over for a kitting lesson and now I'm ready to knit scarves until my fingers fall off.

To give me something to aspire to, she emailed me a link to this crochet hit pink and vanilla cupcake hat beanie. This beanie is super cute, especially since the "model" is an adorable baby. Available on etsy for $25.

Happy Birthday Mr. President

Today is our president's birthday. He just turned 48 (wow, he's young). He's a smart guy because he celebrated his birthday by giving a plate of cupcakes to Helen Thomas, a journalist for the Hearst newspapers, who shares a birthday with him.

Happy Birthday President Obama! I hope you were able to eat a cupcake too!

Cupcake Fail

Have you ever seen Fail Blog? See Exhibit A below.

I made some cupcakes for my nephew's first birthday party. Per the request of my sister, she wanted funfetti cupcakes with green and blue frosting. I decided to make a special big cupcake for my nephew. I had forgotten that the big cupcake wrappers I currently have are quitters. After piling on a ton of frosting and making a 20 minute drive over to the party, the cupcake was a blob. A tasty blob, but still a blob.

Diego (my nephew) didn't care. He shoved his little hand into the cupcake to show his appreciation.

Happy Birthday Diego!

Mammoth Cupcakes

Just got back from an AWESOME three-day weekend in Mammoth! As you may remember, I reviewed the seemingly only cupcake to be found in Mammoth Lakes last November. So I was very surprised to see my husband bring me a tray of cupcakes along with lunch at Main Lodge two days ago. "Two cupcakes for $3.00!" he exclaimed. That's probably the cheapest thing you can find in the cafeteria. (The food prices there are worse than Disneyland!)

The cupcake flavor was red velvet. The result was not great. The cake was very dry, but also sticky. The frosting was a light, sugary cream cheese. I even found a chunk of cream cheese in the frosting (actually it was the best part of the frosting, but not something that should happen). Needless to say, after a hard day of snowboarding through heavy winds and low visibility, I inhaled the cupcakes.

And despite the cupcakes being not that great, I was still excited to see them being sold in a ski resort lodge. Mammoth Mountain, you rock!

Success at The Perfect Circle Cupcakery

I have stopped by my local cupcakery (The Perfect Circle in the Orange Circle) several times since it opened in December. This weekend I was finally able to secure a Red Velvet cupcake! And it was wonderful! The cake was super moist and the cream cheese frosting was near-perfect. I think there needs to be a little more frosting on the cupcake to maintain a good cake-to-frosting ratio. Besides that, this cupcake lives up to its hype.

Cupcake Ornament

I thought we only had to bring a white elephant gift to the Christmas party we attended on Saturday night. Apparently, we also had to bring our creativity. In case it wasn't obvious, I made the cupcake ornament. Can't wait to hang it on our tree!

Birthday Wishes

My birthday is coming up next week. Put aside all of my other wants of bike helmets, waterproof cameras, and mountain bike shoes...all I really want is a Sprinkles Pumpkin Cupcake. (Good news! They are being offered every day for the month of November!)

Bristol Farms Review

When the OC Register had their Cupcake Challenge a few months ago I noticed that Bristol Farms won for Best Overall and Best Frosting. I knew I would be needing to give them a try in the near future. I was a little hesitant at first because Bristol Farms is a grocery store. I would expect a cupcakery to have the best cupcakes, not a grocery store. So what did I find?

When I arrived in the bakery section of their store I saw that there was a whole row dedicated to just cupcakes. Wow, they looked amazing! How was I going to decide which ones to try?

Somehow I was able to narrow down my choice to just two cupcakes. I surprised myself by picking the White Chocolate Cupcake and one of my new favorite flavors, Chocolate Coconut.

The White Chocolate Cupcake is a white chocolate fan's dream come true. It is white cake with white chocolate frosting and white chocolate curly-cues on top. I am not a huge white chocolate fan, but my husband is and he said that this cupcake was superb. I agree...I could tell this was a good cupcake despite my weird taste in food. The cake had the right amount of moistness and the frosting was very tasty.

Chocolate Coconut is one of my new favorite cupcakes. I didn't expect that coconut would be a fav, but I am really starting to enjoy it a lot. Bristol Farms did not disappoint! This cupcake had a great flavor combination...chocolate cake, vanilla frosting, coconut on top. The only downer was the amount of frosting. As you can see by the picture below, there was more frosting than cake. Don't get me wrong, I love frosting, but it has to be the right amount. I would probably cut the amount of frosting in half. Besides that, I really enjoyed this cupcake!
Bristol Farms may get overlooked as a cupcake choice because it shares a shopping center with Sprinkles Cupcakes in Newport Beach, but it is definitely worth the trip. These cupcakes were $3.00 each and I felt that I got my money's worth. Another positive note, it is open until 10:00pm, which is way past's Sprinkles curfew. Try it out and see if the OC Register is right about Bristol Farms having the Best Overall cupcake.
