Cupcake Sundaes at Cake Mamas

This summer Cake Mamas is bringing back Cupcake Sundaes. I had never heard of these, so of course I was intrigued. A Cupcake Sundae is a warm cake baked in a large cupcake bowl, filled & frosted with two scoops of ice cream, and topped with a cherry & nuts. Yum!

They say it's large enough to feed four....but I think I could eat the whole thing myself. They are available all summer long at the Cake Mamas store in Glendora for $7.50.

So True

I met Jen, aka: pinkcupcakegirl, earlier this year at a running event. She is super cool! She loves to run and eat cupcakes, just like me! Yesterday she posted this quote on instagram. I couldn't have said it better!

Root Beer Cupcakes from Java Cupcake

Was does root beer remind me so much of summer? Maybe it's because I love drinking it at BBQs. And BBQs remind me of summer. Sitting around talking with friends until the sun goes down. Yes, that's summer and I'm so happy today is the first official day of summer!

Here's a recipe from Java Cupcake for Root Beer Cupcakes. These cupcakes are made with root beer syrup (recipe also included on Java Cupcake), and bourbon vanilla cream buttercream. YUM!

I'm Jealous

Not every wedding is the same. But I wish every wedding had cupcakes from Bake You Happy. My friend Carrie got to eat a few Bake You Happy cupcakes at a wedding last weekend. Lucky duck!

Although I've actually never been to their cupcake shop, I've tasted their cupcakes and cookies several times and they are some of my favorite in the world! Bake You Happy has come a long way since I first reviewed them in 2009. Since then, they have been on Cupcake Wars twice (won it once) and have opened two cupcake shops. Unfortunately, neither is close to me :(

Bakerella's Father's Day Happy Meal

Bakerella is reliving the past, by re-posting her "Fast Food Fun" from Father's Day four years ago. This cute "meal" is actually made from cupcakes, brownies, and cookies. I think making the french fries would be my favorite part, and not just because I love french fries. They are made from sugar cookies and the "salt" are sugar (isn't that ironic?). You can find instructions for the whole presentation, including a template for the french fry tray here. Happy Father's Day!

Experimenting with Filippo Berio Olive Oil

I love trying new products, especially ones that I will actually continue use. Italian food is popular in our household, so experimenting with Filippo Berio Olive Oil was super easy. Last week I decided to make tomato and mozzarella crostini.

All I needed was a loaf of Italian bread, fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, Filippo Berio olive oil, and basil (whoops! I forgot the basil). You can find the recipe here.

I brushed the olive oil on the bread while it broiled and drizzled a bit on the tomatoes at the end. This was a step I hadn't done before, but it made all the difference. I know a recipe is a success when my husband can't stop eating it.

Disclaimer: I was provided with one bottle of Filippo Berio olive oil. All opinions are my own.

Rainbow Cakepops at Sweet & Saucy Shop

Just how adorable are these rainbow cakepops from Sweet & Saucy Shop. I wish I could just pop into their shop every time I see something new on their Instagram feed. But maybe it's a good thing I don't live closer, or I'd be about 20 pounds heavier (but happier too)!

Neapolitan Cupcakes from Baked Perfection

What is with my fascination with neapolitan? Three delicious flavors that go together perfectly! I've seen several combination of Neapolitan cupcakes, but I think this is my favorite (probably because it's the easiest).

Baked Perfection posted a recipe for Neapolitan Cupcakes, which uses a chocolate cake mix as the base for the cupcakes. Some recipes use several flavors of cake layered or swirled together. Baked Perfection adds the strawberry and vanilla flavors in the frosting by swirling them together. Easy is always my game. You can find the full recipe here.

B Sweet Mobile Spotted on "The Bachelorette"

I'm going to admit something I thought I never would: my husband watches "The Bachelorette." And since the TV is on, I watch it too.

While Desiree was on her first one-on-one date with Brooks, I was surprised to spot B Sweet Catering on the show. I first discovered B Sweet Catering two years ago when I got the amazing opportunity to tour their kitchen and taste their treats (full post here). Since then, B Sweet has been roaming the streets of LA in their own dessert truck.

The episode didn't expand much on what they ordered at B Sweet, but I later found photos on Barb's B Sweet Instagram. Desiree and Brooks received special bride and groom cupcakes from B Sweet Mobile truck. So cute!

Continuing coverage of the event extended to the next day when Barb and her truck were featured on E! News. How exciting for her! Congrats Barb and B Sweet!

Cronut Replaces Cupcakes?

How many desserts have tried to replace cupcakes? Add another to the list.

OC Weekly's food blog, Stick A Fork In It, recently introduced me to the Cronut. It's exactly how it sounds, a mix between a croissant and a donut. According to the blog, it was invented in New York City by Dominique Ansel Bakery.

"...it's made from pastry dough that has been proofed, fried, tossed in sugar, then filled with Tahitian vanilla cream,....is finished with a rose glaze and crystallized rose petals."

Yes, I love cupcakes, but this sounds heavenly. But I can guarantee it won't replace cupcakes. I still want to eat it so bad!!!
