My First 50k, Mother's Day, and of course Cupcakes!

I never had a desire to run further than 26.2 miles. But for some reason this 50k was calling my name. I signed up with lots of trepidation, but excited for a new challenge.

The race couldn't have gone any better. Great weather, great running buddy, no upset stomach, legs felt strong, and I finished with a good time.

I knew exactly where I was headed after the race....Sweet & Saucy Shop! It was literally right down the street, so how could I resist?

I picked up my favorite flavor, Candy Bar, along with a dozen minis to share with my mom (it was Mother's Day weekend after all). I also had to get their special MOM sugar cookies. Yes I bought them for myself, but I'm a mom and I certainly deserved them after running 31 miles that day.

On Mother's Day I was treated like a queen, which was perfect since I was pretty sore from my race. My husband and son sure know how to spoil me. I can't wait to get my Burke Williams massage!

New Sweet & Saucy Long Beach Location Open

Earlier this year I shared the news that Sweet & Saucy Shop would be moving it's Long Beach location. Well, it finally happened and they are open for business! The photos look great and I am happy to see their success.

In case you didn't know, Sweet & Saucy Shop is one of my favorite cupcake shops ever. They make the most delicious cupcakes and desserts. I always tell people they are my favorite cupcake shop in Orange County. I can't wait to visit their new shop.

Rainbow Cakepops at Sweet & Saucy Shop

Just how adorable are these rainbow cakepops from Sweet & Saucy Shop. I wish I could just pop into their shop every time I see something new on their Instagram feed. But maybe it's a good thing I don't live closer, or I'd be about 20 pounds heavier (but happier too)!

Sweet & Saucy Shop Now Offering Pupcakes

As if Sweet and Saucy Shop could get any better. Now, they offer "pupcakes" at their Newport Beach cupcake shop. Pumpkin will be so happy to finally get her own cupcakes (instead of trying to swipe mine). Although, they look good enough for me to eat too!

Sweet & Saucy Shop Moves its Long Beach Location

More Sweet & Saucy Shop news! Melody has announced that the Long Beach location is moving to...Long Beach. Yes, you heard me right. Sweet & Saucy Shop is moving to a permanent location in Bixby Knolls. Bigger shop, more parking spots, and decorating classes! I love seeing success for one of my favorite cupcake shops ever. Good luck to them!

P.S. The Newport Coast location is staying right where it is. Yay!

Everybody Wins on Valentine's Day!

Yesterday was the 10th Valentine's Day my husband and I celebrated together. Wow we are getting old!

My husband is the best husband and dad to Desmond I could ever ask for. He never fails to make me feel like I'm #1 in his life. Case in point: Sweet and Saucy Shop cupcakes. I might have given him a few subtle hints and it worked. He got home from work on Valentine's Day with a delicious box of cupcakes from Sweet and Saucy Shop. He even researched my favorite flavor and got me two of them (Candy Bar, in case you were wondering). What more could a girl want?!

Sweet and Saucy Shop has locations in Long Beach and Newport Beach. I hope your Valentine's Day is as sweet as I wish mine will be <3 p="">

I Can't Stay Away from Sweet and Saucy Shop

A few weeks ago I raced Orangeman, an iron-distance triathlon, meaning 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 run. I've done several of these races before, but this was the first time I crashed. What?! Yes I crashed on my bike for the first time ever! It was a stupid accident where caution tape got tangled in my bike handlebars and at 18 mph I went down hard on asphalt. Luckily I was only 3 miles from the end of the bike course, so after I got attended to by the paramedics, I rode my bike back and finished the race by running 13.1 miles.

I would say that deserves some cupcakes, right?

It wasn't hard to convince my friend Jill to join me for a trip to Sweet and Saucy Shop in Newport Beach, CA. Between the two of us, we ordered one of everything. Yeah, we are that serious about cupcake eating.

I've been to Sweet and Saucy Shop before, but I tried a few new items this time: S'mores cupcake, mini pumpkin cheesecake, lemon cupcake, pumpkin mousse dessert shot, and butterscotch dessert shot. Loved everything...enough said!

Desmond might have tasted his first taste of whipped cream. Shhhh! Don't tell my husband!

New Sweet and Saucy Shop Wins My Heart

I knew I loved Sweet and Saucy Shop before a cupcake ever entered my mouth. My first visit to Sweet and Saucy was in 2009. The shop is located in Long Beach, CA, just a bit outside of Orange County. As much as I LOVED everything I ate, I just didn't travel through that area much.

So when I heard Sweet and Saucy Shop was expanding to Orange County, I was so extremely excited! And of course I paid a visit during opening week....to, uh, make sure the cupcakes tasted the same as before. Yeah, uh, yeah, that's why I had to stop by.

The new location is nestled in the Crystal Cove Promenade in Newport Beach. I visited near the end of the day and the counter was still well-stocked with all kinds of goodies. I couldn't leave without trying a little of everything. And that's exactly what I did: bought one of everything. That's how I roll.

Des was a little upset that he couldn't have any sweets. One day, my boy, one day.

I picked out so many yummy-looking cupcakes: Oreo, Strawberry Cream, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Chocolate, Coconut, and Candy Bar. Every single flavor was exceptional! I especially loved Candy Bar with the chocolate ganache filling, peanut butter cream cheese frosting, and salted caramel topping.

I didn't want the other desserts to feel left out, so of course I had to bring them home with me too: Chocolate Chip Cookie, Pumpkin Cake Lollipop, Mini Peach Pie, Red Velvet Cake Lollipop, Salted Caramel Macaron. The macaron was perfect! Great consistency, crunchy shell, and creamy center. This was my first mini pie and I loved it!

Let me tell you why I'm so especially excited about this Sweet and Saucy Shop opening. So many people ask where my favorite cupcake shop in Orange County is. I always mention Sprinkles or SusieCakes, but they've never WOWed me. Now when someone asks, I can say my favorite cupcake shop in Orange County is Sweet and Saucy Shop! By the way, I ate every single cupcake and dessert the same night! (I needed the sugar high as I drove to Vegas late that night.)

The list continues...

I constantly get asked, "where can I find the best cupcakes?". Wow, it's just so hard to narrow it down because I've tasted so many delicious cupcakes. You can check out all of my reviews under the tab "Cupcake Reviews." But I think it's time to reveal my updated list for The Cupcake Activist's Top 10 Cupcakes of All Time! This list will be constantly changing, as there are so many cupcakes I have yet to try.

Sweet & Saucy Shop Opening Orange County Location

One of my favorite dessert shops is opening a new shop in Newport Coast at the Crystal Cove Promenade. This is great news because I don't get out to Long Beach much to visit them.

Sweet & Saucy Shop is a dessert shop that sells cupcakes, cake pops, bars, cakes, and cookies. I first visited them in September 2009 and fell deeply in love! If you haven't been to the shop yet...GO! The new shop opens in 3 months, but I suggest you don't wait to taste the goodness!

Sweet Surprise From Sweet Husband

My husband recently started a new job in Torrance. His commute just happens to take him past Sweet & Saucy Shop in Long Beach, so a few weeks ago I emailed him the address and casually mentioned that if he ever wanted to make me super happy he should stop by.

Well, last Friday he wanted to make me super happy, so when I arrived home from work there were a couple of treats sitting on the counter. I literally jumped for joy!

I reviewed Sweet & Saucy Shop last year and fell in love with everything they make! And let me tell you, everything is still amazing!!
