Merely Sweets is Open

About six months ago I reported on a new cupcake shop to open in downtown Brea. My mom informed me that it's open and delicious! Merely Sweets isn't just a cupcake shop though. They also sell macarons, cookies, puff pastries, and cakes. My mom stopped by a week ago and tried her first macaron. She loved it!

Since Merely Sweets is located on Birch Street in downtown Brea, it is open late (yeah!): 9:00p on weekdays, 10:00p on Friday and Saturday, and 6:00p on Sundays. I stopped by last weekend to sample a little of everything. Want to know what I think? Watch for my full review soon!

Bake You Happy is Open for Business

Last month Castaic-based cupcake company Bake You Happy was crowned champion of the Food Network's Cupcake Wars. In my interview with them, they told me they planned on using the prize money to open a cupcake shop in Valencia, CA.

Good news! The store is open and the cupcakes are selling like hotcakes! A good friend stopped by their new shop to take a few photos and grab a few cupcakes. I love the look of their shop, especially the colors!

I added two more cupcakes to the list that I've tasted from Bake You Happy. Both the Peanut Butter Cup and Snickerdoodle were divine.

Another New Cupcake Shop in South Orange County

South Orange County must really love cupcakes because that's where all of the new cupcake shops are opening. How about some cupcake love for North Orange County where there are exactly zero cupcakeries? Oh well, I'll take what I can get.

According to the Orange County Register, Sugar Blossom Bake Shop has opened in San Clemente. The owner is Lei Shishak, a former executive pastry chef at St. Regis Monarch Beach. According to Sugar Blossom Bake Shop's website, Lei will be "specializing in cupcakes, cookies, and yummy macademia cinnamon rolls."

I like that she will be selling more than just cupcakes. Sometimes I crave chocolate chip cookies along with my cupcakes. Can't wait to try these treats!

Big Man Bakes Opens Tonight

Today feels like a cupcake day! There seems to be a lot of cupcake news today or maybe I'm just happier than usual.

According to Twitter, Big Man Bakes opens tonight. Their grand opening party is from 7:00pm-11:00pm. Unfortunately, I will be stuck at home cleaning tonight, but if you are in the LA area, I would suggest stopping by. Never tried them before, but I always welcome new cupcakeries.

Frostings to open this weekend

Two months ago I posted about a new cupcake shop that is opening in Lake Forest. I received more information about Frostings, just in time for their opening. Foodie in Disguise posted that Frostings will be officially open on July 4th, although they will have a soft opening tomorrow. In addition to selling cupcakes, Frostings will have their own line of signature cookies and a beverage bar.

If anyone gets a chance to stop by, let me know how their cupcakes are!

Progress!

My biggest inspiration for starting this cupcake blog is this place...
What is this place, you may be asking? It is the future home of the closest cupcake bakery to my home. I saw a sign advertising that a cupcakery, rumored to be called The Perfect Circle, would be opening this summer. I was jumping for joy!
Sadly, that was back in April, summer is almost over, and not much has happened since then. My friends from Orange and I have been impatiently awaiting the opening of this store.
I was walking by today and it looks like there is construction going on. Finally! Hopefully, they will be on the fast-track to opening soon. And I will be first in line!
