Georgetown Cupcake Coming to LA

I've been drooling over Georgetown Cupcake since I first saw them on DC Cupcakes almost two years ago. Then my friend Tran did a guest review for me when she visited in the fall of 2010 and I wanted to try them even more! But I thought, "I'll never get to try them because they are all the way in Washington, D.C." Sigh...

Then I saw the latest news on their Facebook page: "We're so excited to announce our next location - Los Angeles!! We'll be opening at 143 S. Robertson Blvd! Can't wait to bring Georgetown Cupcake to the West Coast!

Hallelujah! Looks like I might get my wish after all! The only thing that would make this better would be if they came to Orange County. We are in need of some amazing cupcake shops!

Merely Sweets is Open

About six months ago I reported on a new cupcake shop to open in downtown Brea. My mom informed me that it's open and delicious! Merely Sweets isn't just a cupcake shop though. They also sell macarons, cookies, puff pastries, and cakes. My mom stopped by a week ago and tried her first macaron. She loved it!

Since Merely Sweets is located on Birch Street in downtown Brea, it is open late (yeah!): 9:00p on weekdays, 10:00p on Friday and Saturday, and 6:00p on Sundays. I stopped by last weekend to sample a little of everything. Want to know what I think? Watch for my full review soon!

Casey's Cupcakes to Overtake Sprinkles?

According to an interview with the Fast Food Maven, Casey Reinhardt, owner of Casey's Cupcakes, is expanding her company with hopes to become a national brand. Casey's Cupcakes has been in the news a lot this year with the opening of a new location in Laguna Beach and an appearance (and win!) on Cupcake Wars. And now she's adding two more locations: Irvine and Newport Beach.

Her Newport Beach store will be at Fashion Island, just a hop, skip, & jump away from Sprinkles Cupcakes. Can Casey's Cupcakes compete with Sprinkles?

Not only is Casey dotting the map with her stores, she is also adding more products. Doggie cupcakes and cupcake lollipops will soon be available for sale.

Some people believe that the cupcake craze will fade, but Casey and I share the same thought when she says, "I believe that people will always eats sweets. It makes people feel better."

Special Father's Day Cupcake Offered at Sugar Blossom Bake Shop

A year ago I announced the opening of another cupcakery in South Orange County. Sugar Blossom Bake Shop is located in downtown San Clemente, CA and sells cupcakes, along with cookies and cinnamon rolls (Sunday only).

In honor of the upcoming Father's Day, Sugar Blossom is offering a Chocolate Guinness Stout Cupcake from June 10-19. This cupcake is an ultra-moist, stout-infused chocolate cupcake topped with torched Guinness meringue. Sounds like a cupcake any dad would love! The cupcake will be selling for $3.

New Cupcakery to Open in Brea

OC Weekly is reporting that a new cupcakery will be opening in Brea within the next 60 days. Merely Sweets will be located in downtown Brea, on Birch Street. The only other info I could find on them was a Facebook page. North Orange County is definitely in need of a cupcakery. I just hope Merely Sweets can live up it our high expectations.

New Cupcake Shop: Lil Red's Cupcakery

Spotted: new cupcake shop in Orange County. A friend gave me the inside scoop that Lil Red's Cupcakery just opened in Huntington Beach last week. The new shop is located at The Strand, off PCH and 5th. I've received many inquiries about a cupcake shop in the Huntington Beach area, but before now, there were none.

I don't have any other info, except for these photos from their Facebook page. Can't wait to stop by soon!

Another New Cupcake Shop in South Orange County

South Orange County must really love cupcakes because that's where all of the new cupcake shops are opening. How about some cupcake love for North Orange County where there are exactly zero cupcakeries? Oh well, I'll take what I can get.

According to the Orange County Register, Sugar Blossom Bake Shop has opened in San Clemente. The owner is Lei Shishak, a former executive pastry chef at St. Regis Monarch Beach. According to Sugar Blossom Bake Shop's website, Lei will be "specializing in cupcakes, cookies, and yummy macademia cinnamon rolls."

I like that she will be selling more than just cupcakes. Sometimes I crave chocolate chip cookies along with my cupcakes. Can't wait to try these treats!
