Cupcake at Disney California Adventure

My son and I go to Disneyland a lot. Why not? We have a pass and he loves it! He's obsessed with Cars (the movie), so we spent a lot of time at Disney California Adventure.

Disney doesn't have a shortage of cupcakes, but I loved finding a "cupcake" in Bugs Land on the Heimlich Train Ride. Even better was hearing my boy point it out before I said anything "Cupcake!" That's my boy!

Special Delivery of Fairy Cakes Cupcakes

I love running and I love cupcakes. And apparently I'm not the only one.

Two weekends ago was the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon. During the weekend, all of my fellow cupcake runner friends got together for a little meet-up before the race. I couldn't make it because I was working at my booth at the expo (Sparkle Athletic), but one of the attendees was kind enough to bring me a box of mini cupcakes.

The cupcakes were from Fairy Cakes Bakery in Orange County. I've tasted Fairy Cakes before (at the LA Cupcake Challenge in 2010), and LOVED them! The Pumpkin White Chocolate was absolutely delicious!

But since they don't have a store front, I haven't had the chance to try them again...until now.

Thank you to Krissy for bringing these pieces of heaven to me. The minis were Pineapple Upside-Down cake cupcakes. They were moist, delicious, and so tasty.

Right now Fairy Cakes Bakery is just a made-to-order cupcake company. Maybe one day they will expand and get their own shop. Until then, I'll keep dreaming about those pumpkin cupcakes.....

Tinker Bell Cupcake Shirt

On Monday I told you about my crazy week at Walt Disney World. This past weekend I did the same thing, but at Disneyland. Luckily I live in Orange County, so I didn't have to travel with a 14-month old again.

Sunday was the Tinker Bell 1/2 marathon at Disneyland. I came across this photo and at second glance noticed these adorable Tinker Bell cupcake t-shirts. Where can I get one?

Running While Sick

This past week has been BUSY with being sick, working, baby being sick, trying to take care of sick baby while husband is out of country, more working, and running the Disneyland 1/2 marathon. I was lucky enough to feel well enough to run 13.1 miles, but that was my limit. I spent the rest of the day being sick again. Not a great week.

BUT for the 13.1 miles that I ran, I had a great time. The Disneyland 1/2 marathon is one of my favorite races! So much fun entertainment and you get to run through both theme parks. The highlight of the race is when you get to run the bases at Angels Stadium. It always makes me cry.

Of course I had to dress up for the race. My friends and I dressed up as the Fireside Girls from Phineas and Ferb. If you have kids, you'll know what I'm talking about. My husband, as seen below, did not dress up, as he returned from his trip to Germany just hours before the race started.

Despite being sick all week, I am so thankful I wasn't 27-1/2 weeks pregnant like I was last year when I ran this race.

But now it's time to get back to real life and back to the cupcake world. I'll have some fun posts later this week. Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend like I did.

This Prego Can Still Run

About a month ago I enlisted your advice to help me decide what to wear at the Disneyland Half-Marathon. This 28-week-along prego Minnie Mouse ran the full 13.1 miles and did it will a smile on my face. It wasn't easy and I was certainly slow, but I had a blast! If you're ever considering signing up for a running race, I definitely suggest a Run Disney race.

And yes I did indulge in a cupcake after the race. Luckily I live close to The Perfect Circle because my feet did not want me doing anything else for the rest of the day.

P.S. The Orange County Register wrote a little story about my race. Check it out here.

What Should This Pregnant Runner Wear?

In just a few weeks I will be "running" the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon. I signed up for this race way before I got pregnant. If this was any other race, I would just skip it, but Disney races are so much fun (and also a little expensive), so I just had to do it, even if I will be 28 weeks pregnant.

Now the big question: what to wear? It won't be easy to hide this big belly. Normally I wear my Hot Pink Team Sparkle skirt, but this time my friends and I are dressing up as Disney characters and pairing with a skirt. Carrie is going as Snow White. Kelly will be Tinkerbell. I still haven't decided yet.

Here are a few of my favorite options, along with matching post-race cupcakes:

Help me out! Which do you like best? Or do you have another idea for me?

Mickey and Minnie Cupcakes

Love these Mickey and Minnie Mouse cupcakes from B Sweet Catering. I asked where they got the cupcake wrappers and they said they make them! I love them!

Here's another view, along with a Buzz Lightyear cupcake. These cupcake wrappers make cupcake decorating so fun and easy.

More Cupcakes Coming to Orange County

Foodie is Disguise is reporting that two more cupcake shops will be opening in Orange County. He says,
"One will be opening in Mission Viejo across from the Gateway Plaza Shopping Plaza in April and the other will be located at Downtown Disney this summer."
I reported on the opening of a cupcake kiosk in Downtown Disney in December. Before I had a chance to visit, I heard that the kiosk closed.

The kiosk was owned by a company called The Cupcake Store. Upon further research, found out that The Cupcake Store has just opened a new cupcake shop in Mission Viejo in March. Their website is also reporting that they will be opening a location in Disneytown Disney soon. Sounds like the mystery is solved: the two new stores are actually one company.

And hopefully their cupcakes have improved because I talked to several people who tried their cupcakes at Downtown Disney and they said the cupcakes were no good.

The Cupcake Store at Downtown Disney

According to the blog Around Disney, a new kiosk selling cupcakes opened last week at Downtown Disney. The Cupcake Store is a kiosk located in front of Compass Books at Downtown Disney. Their cupcakes sell for $4.95 and are available in Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, Red Velvet, Vanilla with Sprinkles, and Vanilla or Chocolate with Coconut Frosting.

"The kiosk opened last Friday night and sold about 240 in the first five hours, said owner Carol Streeter. The Mission Viejo-based bakery plans to open a retail location there in January." (Source: Around Disney)

$4.95 is a little steep for a cupcake, but then again, it is Disneyland.

Disney Cupcakes

Stopped by Disneyland and California Adventure a few days ago and spotted these cupcakes. I've had many people tell me about them before, but I had never actually seen them. It was too bad that I had just eaten a huge ice cream cone from Bur-r-r Bank Ice Cream. I wonder how good they are. Next time I'm getting one.
