Baking Betty's Cookies at Downtown Disney

It took me several weeks of walking by Baking Betty's cookies at Downtown Disney before I finally stopped to see what they were all about. Baking Betty's bakes their cookies locally and has two kiosks in Orange County (the one is at Fashion Island).

My mom and I split a cookie (since they were $4 each....yikes!). We picked the Cookies & Cream cookie: chocolate chip base cookie with Oreos, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips. The cookie was pretty good, but not something I'd pay $4 again for.

You can buy their cookies online. A baker's dozen sells for $36.

Have you tried Baking Betty's cookies yet?

Grasshopper Cookies from Your Cup of Cake

I love myself a good grasshopper cookie. Mint and chocolate, mmmmmm.

You Cup of Cake posted a delicious-looking recipe for the Ultimate Grasshopper Cookies. What makes these extra special? Maybe the chocolate glaze or maybe the crumbled Andes mints on top? You decide.

This recipe could easily translate to cupcakes too. Just substitute with your favorite chocolate cupcake recipe.

Melting Snowman Cupcakes

My mom sent me a link to these Melting Snowman Cookies (thanks Mom!). These could very easily turn into Melting Snowman Cupcakes. I love the idea, especially since my cupcake frosting skills aren't the greatest. I can't wait to start my holiday baking!

Double Chocolate Gingerbread Cupcakes from Sweetapolita

I love this time of year because I get to enjoy pumpkin and gingerbread treats. Sure, I can eat pumpkin muffins or gingerbread cookies in the middle of June, but it just isn't the same.

How delicious does this recipe from Sweetapolita look?

Double Chocolate Gingerbread Cupcakes = Lola's Chocolate Cupcakes + Gingerbread Swiss Buttercream + Chocolate-Dipped Gingerbread Cookie Toppers

The holidays aren't over yet. There is still time to make these. AND there is still time to deliver your finished cupcakes to me. I'll let you hold my beautiful baby boy!

Ice Cream Party Cupcakes

I don't remember how I first stumbled upon Jenny Cookies website, but after I found it I couldn't stop looking at all the beautiful cookies. This week she featured Ice Cream Party cookies. Good for us, she placed cookies on top of some cupcakes. I wish I was going to this party.

Wonderland Bakery to Bake Treats for MLB All-Star Party

Wonderland Bakery, a local bakery that bakes cupcakes and other treats, has been chosen to provide signature cookies for the MLB All-Star Game post-game party at Angels Stadium on July 13. There are about 1,000 expected at this event.

These special cookies are also available for purchase on their website. But you will have to fork over $8.25 for each cookie, along with a 12 cookie minimum order. That's steep.

This is not the first time Wonderland Bakery has baked special cookies for a big event. They also provided 6,000 cookies for the last presidential inauguration, and were chosen by President Obama himself. Those must be some great-tasting cookies! Maybe they are worth the $8.25 price. Anyone know?

Canada Customizes Cookies

Last year I reviewed SweetSpot Baker's Workshop at the Irvine Spectrum. What made this cupcakery special was the make-your-own-cupcake concept. I have yet to see another cupcake shop attempt this.

Springwise recently featured Sweet Flour, a Canadian made-to-order cookie bake shop. Sweet Flour has a similar idea of SweetSpot and even Cold Stone Creamery: you, the customer, get to design your own cookie.

First, you choose a gourmet dough (original, peanut butter, oatmeal), then you add your mix-ins (chocolate chips, peanut butter pieces, pistachios, sunflower seeds, mini pretzels, etc). Last, using their signature baking process, your customized cookie is baked and ready in two minutes!

Also available for sale: a cookie sandwich. Crispy sandwich cookies with indulgent spread in between. I'll try the salted caramel spread, please!

Custom cookies are $2.50 and sandwich cookies are $2.25. Not sure if those are Canadian dollars or US dollars, either way, sounds like a great deal to me!

Red Velvet Cookies

My husband likes to bring in treats for his co-workers from time to time. Sometimes he asks me to help, which I am over-the-top happy to do! I love baking cupcakes and other desserts, but my triathlon "diet" doesn't want me to have a kitchen full of desserts that I shouldn't eat. So I jump at the chance to make goodies for other people.

I decided that I would test out Bakerella's Easy Valentine's Treats. All I needed was a box of red velvet cake mix, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup butter, and a jar of cream cheese frosting.

Interesting side note: I had somewhat of a hard time finding red velvet cake mix. I tried three different grocery stores (Ralph's, Fresh & Easy, Albertson's) before I finally found my cake mix at Target of all places! I stocked up so I wouldn't have this problem in the future.

Bakerella's recipe requires you to make your own frosting. Because of my limited time this weekend, I decided to just use frosting from a jar. I used Betty Crocker's Rich & Creamy Cream Cheese frosting.

I tested a few of the cookies out with my family last night. Delicious! They loved them! Now I will have to see how much my husband's co-workers enjoy them. Who wouldn't love one of these on a Monday?!

Inauguration Cookies

What a historic day! Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. Let's hope he can provide the change we need to get our country back on track.

What better way to celebrate this day than with a special-edition Inauguration cookie from Wonderland Bakery. According to the Fast Food Maven, President Obama ordered 6,000 of these special cookies from the local Wonderland Bakery in Newport Beach, CA. The cookies are sugar cookies with a French vanilla buttercream icing, topped with a presidential emblem hand-picked by the President himself. The cookies will be served today at a luncheon and at two evening galas.

I reviewed Wonderland Bakery last year after a friend bought me a red velvet cupcake from there. So although I would prefer to celebrate today with a cupcake, a cookie is a good alternative. The cookies can be purchased from their store and website for $8.25 (which seems pretty steep considering this economy, but I guess today is a special day).
