Review: My Delight Cupcakery

The first thing I noticed when I walked into My Delight Cupcakery in Ontario, CA was the smell of bacon. That's a first! They were frying up bacon for their award-winning Breakfast Cupcake. Ironically their Breakfast Cupcake was the first cupcake of theirs I had tasted. That was last February at the LA Cupcake Challenge and they won first place for that cupcake. 2010 was a great year for them.

Although I've tasted My Delight Cupcakery's cupcakes at several events in 2010, this was my first visit to their store. As you can imagine, I was more than thrilled to stop by! My Delight Cupcakery is located in Ontario, right off the 10 Freeway at Mountain Ave.

I've seen Naomi at the LA Cupcake Challenge and Cupcake Camp OC, but this was the first time we formally met. I learned that My Delight Cupcakery opened a little over a year ago (December 2009) and was the first cupcake shop in the area. Others have followed, but none have lived up to the My Delight Cupcakery standard.

One of my first thoughts was about the way the cupcakes were displayed. Although there aren't a ton of ways to display cupcakes, most shops do it Sprinkles-style. My Delight isn't like everyone else and displays their cupcakes on cupcake stands and silver serving dishes.

I see their first place cupcake!

I was instantly intrigued by their Pistachio Truffle cupcake. That's definitely a new flavor for me.

My Delight also sells whoopie pies (on Mondays only) and cake pops. It's nice to have a few other items on the menu.

Don't call me a pig, but I certainly acted like one. I went home with 12 different flavors of cupcakes. I tried every single one. It was a tough job. Just kidding. I loved every second of it!

Along with the 12 minis, I also got 6 regular-sized cupcakes.

My Delight Cupcakery has 16 daily flavors and 1 Flavor of the Week. The day I visited, they had several additional flavors not on the daily list. Lucky me! All of the cupcakes were very moist and fresh. Sometimes minis dry out fast, but these minis were outstanding!

From left to right, top to bottom:

Peanut Butter and Jelly - yummy strawberry jam filling

Red Velvet - silky cream cheese was perfect

Carrot Cake - fresh ingredients

Samoa - just like the Girl Scout cookie. One of the best cupcakes I've ever eaten! Loved the chocolate fudge filling and combination of flavors - PERFECT!

Peanut Butter Chocolate - peanut butter chips inside the cake

Strawberry - fresh strawberries in cake and frosting

Chocolate - perfect amount of chocolatey goodness

Breakfast Cupcake - just as amazing as I remembered. This is still an award-winning cupcake!

Pink Champagne - light

Lemon Coconut - meringue topping

Pistachio Truffle - very unique flavor. Great combination of salty flavor and chocolate. I really enjoyed the pistachio ganache in the middle.

Chocolate Salted Caramel - perfect amount of salt on the frosting. This was my second favorite cupcake.

The regular-sized cupcakes were all the same as the minis, except for the Red Velvet. The larger Red Velvet was filled with cherries. It's refreshing to see a twist on the standard red velvet cupcake.

My Delight Cupcakery doesn't just make delicious cupcakes, they pay attention to the little details too. A peanut butter chocolate cupcake doesn't need chocolate sprinkles and a peanut butter chip on top, but it really completes the whole package of the cupcake. My Delight Cupcakery has won over my heart (and stomach) as one of my favorite cupcake shops. They will definitely be moving onto My Top 10 Cupcake of All Time list.

Cupcakes at My Delight Cupcakery are $3 each and $33 for a dozen. Minis are $1.50 each and $16.50 for a dozen. I don't think I've seen a cupcakery offer a dozen discount before. My Delight is very active with their social media, so check their Twitter and Facebook pages often for info on free cupcakes and their Sunday Social.

My Delight Cupcakery will be returning to the LA Cupcake Challenge this Saturday. When I asked Naomi about what flavors she'll be bringing, she didn't tell me. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what they come up with this year.
