Cupcakes by Mail

I love getting packages! Sometimes just the anticipation is more exciting than the actual item arriving. I have heard about cupcakeries shipping cupcakes, but I have a hard time believing that the cupcakes arrive intact and not stale.

Crumbs Bake Shop has recently begun shipping their baked goods. I have never had a cupcake from Crumbs, but they sure look tasty. You can order their cupcakes in three different sizes, but you can only have the Taste and Signature sizes shipped to you.

Has anyone had cupcakes shipped to them? How did they taste? How expensive was the shipping?

I just checked it out and shipping from NY to OC ranges from $34-$46 depending on the method. The signature cupcake box is $22.50. Pretty pricey overall for 6 cupcakes. I'd like to order some though because I'm really curious as to how they are packaging for shipment. If I do, I'll let you know and take pics.

I've never ordered cupcakes from a bakery to be shipped to me.. I have however tried to SHIP a cupcake to NY from FL and let me tell you... very hard to tell. I honestly don't know how those bakeries do it. The only method I found so far where the cupcakes weren't totally destroyed and messy upon arrival was by baking the cake in a small mason jar, and including a zippy bag full of frosting for the recipient to pipe on to their cupcake when they are ready to eat it. It must be eated with a fork right out of the mason jar, however. Cute idea, but not your typical cupcake experience.

If you do wind up ordering, I'd be so curious to hear how they did it and how they got to you. Be sure to update with results :)
