But now I have found a new excuse to stop by Starbucks more often....cupcakes! After several reports of cupcake sightings at Starbucks, I decided that I needed to try them out. Would their cupcakes live up to the same status as their drinks or would they be another corporate cupcake failure?

I was surprised to find a nice display of three different flavors of cupcakes. I was even more surprised to see the price...$1.85 each. That's a bargain, especially for Starbucks. I chose to go home with a Double Chocolate Cupcake and a Red Velvet Cupcake. I only spent $3.70, that's just slightly more than most places sell one cupcake for. So far, I'm impressed.

I tried the red velvet first, since I have been craving one for a while. My first bite told me that something was different. I narrowed it down to the frosting...it's not as sweet as a normal cream cheese frosting. Upon my second bite, I began to enjoy the cupcake more. Actually, it got better with every bite. Once I got past my view of how a red velvet "should" taste, I really enjoyed this cupcake. It was no gourmet cupcake, but it passed the good cupcake test.

The Double Chocolate cupcake did not have a normal frosting, instead it was topped with a chocolate ganache. I thought I would not like this cupcake because of the lack of frosting, but I was very wrong. I enjoyed it a lot! The cake was moist and the chocolate ganache on top was very tasty. I usually don't enjoy dark chocolate much, but I am making an exception for this cupcake. I will definitely eat one again!
Have you tried a cupcake from Starbucks yet? Let me know what you think. Also, I'm curious if all Starbucks locations are selling cupcakes. What have you seen?

I work in La Canada, CA and they the Starbucks by me has cupcakes. I got their vanilla one and it was good but not the best. It smelled like coffee which I think may have hindered my taste buds a little. All in all it was good if you have a craving and need to surpress it asap but otherwise I wouldn't go get one again.
Foarte interesant ce ai postat.M-am uitat pe blogul tau si imi place ce am vazut chiar e frumos si interesant.Felicitari si sigur am sa mai revin!
Yes they have them at my local Starbuck's. Here is a link that they are doing something special for Valentine's Day! http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/pressdesc.asp?id=744
I visited the starbucks at the Cirlce in Orange, and they had them... And I had both the red velvet, and chocolate too... and i red velvet almost tasted like Yellow cake with red food coloring to me. I didn't really enjoy it, and gave my frosting to my husband, but I REALLY loved the chocolate! :) mmmmm
The chocolate was my favorite one, but I definitely have other places that I prefer cupcakes from. But I am happy that the cupcakes weren't terrible, which is what I was expecting.
Cioara- Thanks for readying my blog. Are you from Romania? I think your comment is in Romanian.
we don't have them in our starbucks up here yet. like the price. cheaper than i sell them for, but i wonder...
i'll have to keep my eyes open in sacramento!
My cupcake barometer is vanilla/vanilla so i was *extremely* happy to see those cupcakes. I thought it was much better than some of the $3 a cupcake places here in DC.
I keep checking for them, but they don't seem to have them much.
I just got back to France (Paris) after 6 weeks in California, where I barely stepped in a Starbucks-- thanks to Peets Coffee and the Pannikan in La Jolla... But, I didn't see cupcakes in the Starbucks that I DID go into...
Now, back in France... (cupcakes are starting to become a little trendy here)... I noticed that the Starbucks here are carrying cupcakes...
I haven't tried one yet.. but you KNOW that I will have to!!! They have choc. and vanilla and they are very pretty... I'll post a pic on my blog in the next day or so.. So, if you have a moment, stop by!
Take care,
Leesa
I two loooove the cupcakes from starbucks.......but we are not too lucky here in Houston, tx they are almost 3$ each!
My husband and I stopped by our local Starbucks yesterday (in SC, about 30 mi outside of Charleston) and enjoyed one cupcake each ~ I had the vanilla, and he had the chocolate. The frosting was divine (the best part of any cupcake I always say), and each one cost almost $3, but was well worth it :)

For the past two years I have bought the vanilla cupcakes at Starbucks here in the Boise area. They were light and fluffy and the frosting melted in your mouth. They were better than the cupcakes I can buy in a cupcake store. Starbucks couldn't leave a good thing alone and changed the supplier or recipe. This year the cupcakes are o.k. but much dryer and the frosting is greasy.
I live in Toronto, Canada and we have them as well. I first found them last year at this time and begged the Starbucks office to carry them year round, but alas they told me that they are only a Valentine's promotion. I asked them who their supplier is, but they ignored the question. Perhaps they make them in their own bakery. The red velvet cupcakes are simply the best I have ever eaten and I plan to harass them more to consider carrying them full time.
I am addicted to the Red Velvet...the frosting is superb! And the cake light and crumbling.
I did have one once later in the day and I did detect a bit of coffee smell in the cake as well. But for me that didn't detract too much.
I recently tried the chocolate cupcake with pink frosting at Starbucks & I loved it. I too am a connoisseur of cupcakes & this one was great. However, all starbucks near me stopped selling them. I wrote to starbucks HQ about this, but they referred me to ask each individual store. So far I asked 3 stores to carry them & they all said that they have no control over the products they get to sell. So I am left without cupcakes. Do you have any advice/ideas about how to get the cupcakes back?
